Mistakes, I'm no stranger....

I forgot to buy oil to heat the house before we ran out. That same oil heats our water we use to bathe in. The oil company does not come out on demand. Its been about 4 days since we have had hot water. We do, however have a wood stove and electric blankets and ceramic heaters to keep us warm. Just really missing that nice "just showered" feeling. Right now, I am heating up a pan of icy water to wash myself in. Just like in the "old days" that I am much too young to have experienced.
Years ago, this would have been a crisis for me. While things like a hot shower still is very important to me, I am so at peace sitting on my deck in the warm fading sunlight listening to my youngest talk to his puppy about digging in the dirt.
I have seen harder days in my life and I have pushed through all that. I am happy to be in this moment eating my peanut butter and honey on a whole wheat tortilla and sipping peach tea.
I spent the day outside today gardening. From December until the middle of March, I barely left the house. I craved the outdoors in a way I could not have remembered when I was a southern housewife. The snow draped over my world and I could not get past its freezing temperatures to enjoy life. These warmer days have been long awaited and I am making the most of them.

Photo is of the fruits (er... veggies actually) of my labors.... lettuce. MMMM
